Voluntary Social Year in Science, Technology and Sustainability (FJN) at the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis
Are you interested in science and sustainability? Would you like to gain practical experience before studying or find out whether a job in the natural sciences suits you? Then the Voluntary Social Year (FJN) at the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT) is just right for you.
The FJN at LIKAT offers you the opportunity to work in a leading chemical research institute. You will be integrated into a working group and become familiar with everyday scientific tasks. Your activities will include laboratory work such as syntheses, preparation and follow-up of chemical experiments as well as the theoretical consideration and interpretation of the results. During the course of the year, you will also have the opportunity to work on your own project. Due to the close connection to the University of Rostock, you can get to know the university environment and also get a taste of one or two lectures.
These experiences give you valuable insights into sustainable professions and support you in your choice of study or career. Accompanying educational seminars run by the IJGD will expand your knowledge and enable you to make new contacts.
As a rule, the FJN starts on September 1 and lasts 12 months.
In order to take part in the programme, you must first apply to the sponsoring organization (“Internationale Jugendgemeinschaftsdienste” IJGD), which is responsible for organizing the framework conditions and the accompanying educational programme. This consists of five one-week seminars that take place at different locations and allow you to get to know other volunteers.
The place of assignment is Rostock. We will be happy to help you find accommodation and other organizational details.
It is advisable to look for accommodation early on. It is also possible to apply for housing benefit (Wohngeld). You can find more information on this under the link: Wohngeld.
As a volunteer, you will receive a volunteer card from the sponsoring organization, which entitles you to many benefits. Volunteers can also take advantage of the “D-Ticket for trainees in MV” for €29 per month. The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will pay the €20 difference to the normal D-Ticket for you. (You can find more information about the Azubiticket MV here).
Applications are initially submitted via the IJGD. You can then specify the LIKAT as the place of assignment, so that your application will then end up with us.
It is worth applying early!
Further information and the link for the application can be found on the homepage of the supporting organization IJGD.
Dr. Martha Höhne is the contact person at LIKAT for all questions concerning the FJN.
