The downtown area of Rostock exhibits a large number of amazing historic buildings like e.g. the Marien-Kirche located nearby the town hall, which was build around 1230. The downtown area also possesses a large pedestrian area, with many bars and restaurants and also a large number of possibilities for shopping.

The picture shows the historic main building of the University of Rostock, located in the center of the city, thus showing the tight relationship of the town and the University. The University of Rostock, founded in 1419, belongs to one of the oldest universities in Germany and is the oldest university in the Baltic Sea area.
