Prof. Axel Schulz

Associated Research Group of Prof. Axel Schulz (Universiy of Rostock)

The research group deals with inorganic and elemental non-metal molecular chemistry from the fields of CN-, EN- (E = P, As, Sb, Bi) and SN-synthesis chemistry. The Schulz group is located at both the University of Rostock and the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis. The research area at the Leibniz Institute is divided into two topics:

focusing on the linkage of "major group element compounds"-"minor group element compounds"-catalysis. Further topics can be found on our University Homepage.

The experimental work focuses on the synthesis and complete characterization of novel main group molecular compounds from the previously described substance classes. Many of the compounds we present are small and "manageable" and are therefore very well suited for complete characterization (gas phase: IR, mass spectrometry; solution: multinuclear NMR spectroscopy; solid, X-ray diffraction, Raman, IR spectroscopy, solid-state NMR spectroscopy). Comprehensive characterization of a new substance includes in-depth study of correlations between:
Structure ↔ Bonding ↔ Properties.
